Silk Faille Gown!

When I was little I watched my mother work with clients to make wedding gowns, prom gowns, etc. One day a girl came in with a wrinkled photocopy of a dress she liked and my mom made it by using store-bought patterns and, as she put it, "frankensteining them together."It was then I knew that anything was possible with sewing. I have experimented and studied since then, challenging myself over and over. This brings me to the Faille Gown- what a challenge!

This gown was commissioned for a special event. My client brought some inspiration pictures that she liked and after a little bit of sketching and measuring I began to make the gown. I started as I usually do - draping on a dress form. Then I transfer the shapes to paper and use the paper along with muslin to fine-tune the silhouette and fit of the gown to my client's individual shape. Here are a few pictures of the process, the final gown , and an added matching bolero!
